Neue LEGO Bionicle Sets wird es – zumindest in naher Zukunft – nicht geben. LEGO hat das Ende der zweiten Bionicle-Generation bekanntgeben. Offenbar verkaufte sich die Reihe nicht gut genug.
Ich war die letzten Tage im Urlaub, und wollte jene Meldung vom LEGO Bionicle-„Ende“, die mich quasi am Strand erreichte, erst einmal sacken lassen, ehe ich vorschnell urteile.
Fakt ist: LEGO hat, etwas überraschend, via Facebook vor wenigen Tagen das Ende von LEGO Bionicle bekanntgeben. Auch die Netflix-Serie hat somit keine Zukunft.
In der offiziellen Erklärung wird betont, wie dankbar man der Community sei – weltweit gibt es eine große Anhängerschaft. Doch offenkundig – und dies lässt sich nur zwischen den Zeilen lesen – waren die Verkäufe nicht gut genug. Die aktuelle Welle an neuen Sets etwa erscheint noch nicht einmal mehr weltweit.
Bionicle war ein ausschlaggebender Faktor für die Rettung von LEGO vor rund fünfzehn Jahren, und auch wenn gewiss nicht jeder AFOL Fan dieser „Buildable Figures“ ist, so können wir doch dankbar sein, dass es Bionicle gibt. Während die erste Generation rund zehn Jahre am Leben gehalten werden konnte, ist für die zweite Generation nach bereits zwei Jahren Schluss.
In Form von LEGO Star Wars Figuren bleibt das Franchise – wenn man so möchte – erhalten. Doch ob und wann auch Bionicle einen dritten Frühling erlebt, bleibt abzuwarten.

THE CONCLUSION OF “THE JOURNEY TO ONE” MARKS THE END FOR LEGO® BIONICLE® GENERATION 2
Fans, today we have to share the news with you that we have made the tough decision to discontinue LEGO® BIONICLE® at the end of 2016. NETFLIX has just started streaming the final two episodes of “The Journey to One” the ending of which will put an end to any speculation about the future of LEGO® BIONICLE®.
With the 2015 relaunch of LEGO® BIONICLE®, we set out to revive a childhood favorite of fans worldwide, and bring it to a new group of children who were too young to have known and played with LEGO® BIONICLE® Generation 1. From your wonderful feedback over the last year, we feel very proud to have performed that task. Currently, the last wave of LEGO® BIONICLE® products is launching in Europe and North America. These products will, however, not reach the shelves in Asia and the Pacific markets.
Next up is the #BIONICLEbuildmakuta Rebrick Contest, starting August 1st, that will give you a chance to compete for some unique prizes. All you have to do is to give us your best shot at the Evil Overlord himself.
